Semiotic Theory

Semiotic theory is when humans interpret signs that we recieve such as seeing a colour and thinking of a emotion such as Red > Anger

My Semiotic theory of my magazine will be based around Indie, so I will be using bright colours for most of the pictures and text plus background on my pages which will show people that it's connected to a Indie style magazine and will catch their attention.

Ideology

An ideology is a set of ideas that constitutes one's goals, expectations, and actions set to one group of people, I have to use theory to my music magazine to show what group of people I am aiming my magazine at. The ideology I will be using will be for my magazine is it will be aimed at Indie/Cool/Chilled people that like the music that will be in the magazine which will mainly be Indie music.

What type of research I will be carrying out

For my media coursework I have to decide what type of research I will be carrying out to help me with my magazine, firstly I could do qualative research which is information on peoples feelings and opinions compared to quantative which is anything to do with asking people about numbers such as how many times they watch TV a day etc.

I will be carrying out qualative research for my media task as I believe it's alot more easier than quantative even though it can be quite hard to compare two peoples opinions and it will be easier for me to find it on the web etc. using this method also gives me a wider range of things that I can research on and will give me a wider opinion of a person rather than just a bunch of numbers plus it will be alot more interesting for myself to read and will be easier for me to understand.

Coursework - What I need to do

For my media coursework,I have to research music magazines to help me produce my own unique music magazine of my own. For my research I will be looking at the target audiences and conventions of todays music magazine such as Kerrang etc. Once I have done this I will have to create a front cover for my own magazine that I will be making with adobe photoshop CS5 and then making the rest of my pages using the same program, the deadline for my coursework is April the 16th 2011.
